Keeping the Pace

It's been a couple of weeks since Tyler's last post, and we've been meaning to update—but you know how it goes. Life starts filling in the spaces, and suddenly those quiet moments for reflection slip through the cracks.
Since that first ride at BORP, Tyler’s gone on another one—a solid 2.2 miles, longer and faster than the first. The ride itself was great. The shoulder recovery afterward? A little less so. Turns out handcycling works every muscle already clocking overtime—and then demands a little more.
So we’ve slowed the pace a bit these past few days. Still doing all the things—OT, PT, transfers, mobility work, household wins—but with a rhythm that feels more sustainable. Not every week needs a major milestone. Sometimes, just staying in motion is the real achievement.
There’ve been some good, ordinary days in the mix too. Tyler’s growing stronger around the house, and transfers are smoother (and mercifully less dramatic). We’ve found a groove of low-key progress: managing care more independently, sticking to routines, and maybe most importantly—knowing when to rest instead of push.
This week brought its own quiet victories. We stayed on top of chores with help from friends and family, and Tyler even got in on the tidying—a win for independence and clean floors.
Next up? We’re skipping the handcycle this weekend in favor of a little shoulder R&R. But we’ll definitely be outside. A little fresh air, a little sun, and a pace that holds—for now.
