Hospital tour

Hospital tour

Saturday began with coffee and breakfast with Tyler. Sleeping over reminded me of how much I miss him and how much I can’t wait for him to come home. On Tuesday, it will have been a month.

After breakfast, we took a quick tour of unvisited parts of the hospital – exciting locales such as the cafeteria and the lobby!

We got some sun on the patio and then Tyler prepped (CIC, lunch, Tylenol) and went to PT and OT.

Jeff brought the kids and then Jeff and I  went with Tyler to an SCI resource class. Much of the class was pretty basic but foundational information (e.g., understanding your injury, online resources, videos), but it provided a good starting place.

One thing we have learned about spinal cord injury classes is that it is clear that most folks need to rehearse early lessons on health and nutrition. Many of us who aren’t athletes or dancers don’t spend time thinking about the how, where, and why of our bodies. But an SCI forces you to become very acquainted with how your body works (and doesn’t work). Everything about how Tyler took care of himself requires a revision and he’s learning how he’s going to live in this new body, and we are learning how we support him in this new body.
