Fundraising
So this year I've set up two targets for fundraising within the SCI community, focused on getting folks with disabilities back into sports: The Kelly Brush Foundation and BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation.
You may have heard me talk about BORP before. They are a charitable organization based in the East Bay and dedicated to making sports accessible to any and all disabled folks. Dacia and I are members, and I typically go to their cycling center twice a week (and y'all are welcome to join if you're willing to put up with my 12mph pace). But BORP supports kayaking, basketball, sled hockey, rock climbing and so much more. And it's not just for SCI patients–they facilitate sports for folks with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and beyond. They have a special focus on young athletes & it's a joy to watch these kids get on bikes and trikes and head off on an adventure every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. And above and beyond that the team at BORP are one of the kindest and most supportive groups I've ever met
So please consider donating to BORP this season–I've seen enough of this organization to know just how far they stretch each and every dollar.
The second organization is The Kelly Brush Foundation. This is a charity founded by a family from my hometown (Charlotte Vermont Represent! Go Fighting Redhawks!) that helps spinal cord patients buy adaptive sports equipment, attend sports clinics and camps, and create a digital community space for all of us to talk about our injuries and our sports goals. They're also hosting a bike ride on October 25th in Mill Valley, CA (as well as Middlebury, VT for the fam back east). I will be riding, but haven't yet decided if I'm up to doing the Paradise/Camino Alto loop. Climbing is hard.
Anyway. I'm running a time-boxed fundraiser over the next two weeks for this ride, please consider donating here. I'm trying to raise enough to beat that show-off Brad and his six hundred dollars of donations. And if enough comes through maybe I'll have to ride Paradise.
Thank you all!
