Just Another Thursday

Just Another Thursday
Who's this handsome man in the passenger seat?

Tyler’s been home for just over a week now, and whew—busy doesn’t even begin to cover it. I know I said we’d be taking it easy in my last post, and we are… kind of. Let’s just call it a “gentle hustle.”

This week kicked off with a full slate of home health support. Tyler has at-home Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy twice a week. We also have a home health nurse keeping tabs on his vitals, and another who helps out with bathing. It’s a lot, but we’re grateful for every bit of it.

Between the PT, OT, and practicing transfers, Tyler’s been adding chair dips to his routine—a huge milestone since rehab—and it’s already paying off. He barely used his push-up blocks for board transfers. And then today, he made his first attempt at transferring into our Toyota Highlander. For context: the car seat is about nine inches higher than his chair, which is no small jump.

We didn’t go into it with expectations—just curiosity, a little hope, and a lot of “let’s just see what happens.” With a dose of verbal encouragement from our neighbor and a whole lot of determination, Tyler made it in with minimal assistance.

It might sound like a small thing, but I was floored. Two months ago, every breath was a struggle. Now he’s hoisting himself into an SUV like it’s just another Thursday. No drama, no fanfare—just a quiet, nine-inch leap into the next chapter of recovery.

I’ll never stop being impressed by him. Just when I think he’s accomplished his goal for the day, he goes and levels up again.
